Bunsa Studio Edition!
Hello, hello! We’re back for another fashion-inspired-by-interiors post! Today we’ll be taking a look at Bunsa Studio, led by Jennifer Bunsa. I’ll never forget the first time I stumbled across their work - I immediately shared the image below on Instagram along with the caption “this is too good for human eyes.” Now that I’m so familiar with their projects, it’s funny to me how much my first introduction to them captures the spirit of their studio. Pattern, color, walnut, brass, all while maintaining ease and visual clarity. Wrapping a room in wallpaper and color without it feeling overwhelming is no small feat! It’s a masterclass in scale, proportion, and even with all the pattern, negative space. These are all things I think about when getting dressed as well, now that I think about it. Sometimes it’s what you don’t put on that speaks the loudest. But we’ll get into that below!
To recap why I’m drawn to this subject:
I have worked on the sales side of interiors for 14 years now, and I’ve had the honor of working with incredible design firms here in NYC. I’ve absorbed so much from my clients and projects over the years, so I can’t help but think my exposure has informed my sensibilities when shopping and getting dressed.
Although I don’t wear a lot of pattern, I think the materiality of the following projects provides the perfect prompt for translating interiors into outfits. Since this is a creative exercise. and not sourcing for my own closet, it’s also a good way for me to discover new brands and stretch my styling muscles.

Ok! Just like last time, I will share a few favorite projects and then pull together five outfits based on each design. Let’s get to it!
Grove Townhouse
Ok, I started out easy. This project has less pattern and is much more grounded in light tonal colors than some of the following ones. But! It was still tricky to land on an outfit that felt special enough to capture all the details in the above photos. The very first thing I pulled was the bag - which is actually not based on the design at all, but the styling add of a burgundy tote in the first image. I couldn’t resist. The exact one is sold out Cult Gaia, but the one below is a good alt! The next piece I wanted to nail down was a coat to capture the warmth of all the wood paneling. This one is a perfect wool/cashmere trench IMO. Then I set out to bring in something to capture the stunning pink light fixture and the very bright florals. Originally I had green shoes and pink earrings here, but then I saw Rachel of Clothes Are Friends fame share these earrings in her recent post and I had to switch. And then I found these pink metallic Emme Parsons shoes and knew that was it. Look complete! P.S. I kept the accessories very minimal on purpose. No necklace, no bracelet - it’s not needed. These earrings do all the legwork.

Ponte Vedra
This outfit was the trickiest of the bunch. You would be shocked how many combinations I went through. I eventually settled on bringing in the burgundy tones from the stone into the coat and I started the outfit there. The white in the stone has a very cool undertone, almost blueish in some spots. So I went on a hunt for a pair of jeans that had the tiniest bit of color variation, and found exactly what I was envisioning with these from B Sides. I wanted a top with draping so I could get color variation from shadows while also keeping it simple and a solid color (yes, I go overboard thinking about these things, yes I love every second). That left me with finding either a bag, bracelet, earrings, or shoes in the perfect shade of blue to match the range. I went through .. many. But when I found these from Aeyde (a brand I own and love) I stopped my search immediately. Perfection! The accessories were fun, and again - earrings and a bracelet only. I tried a necklace and smaller earrings, but it was too much. I love the gold cuff to pick up on the brass hardware, and this walnut clutch was a total no brainer. Chef’s kiss!

For this one, I started by searching for a floral coat, and was very excited to find this trench at Burberry. It’s men’s, but very cool for anyone. Moving on to the top, I wanted to bring in the lighter blues in the (stunning) bedding and thought this draped silk option was the perfect thing. And then I just so happened to see it in person a few days ago at Bergdorf’s, and it’s very good. To round out the core outfit, a classic pair of jeans felt right since the top and coat need space to shine. There’s a lot of ivory in the room, i.e. the doors, the sconces, the frame on the painting, so a minimalist ivory bag works well. The flats bring in the caramel colors in the wood paneling. How good is that paneling by the way? I die for it. For the finishing touches, a veil of color with the nail polish and pink pearl studs as a direct interpretation of the pink globes on the chandelier.

This shirt was the very first item I saved for this post, and I didn’t even know where I would put it, but it screamed Bunsa Studio to me. I must have had the above photos guiding me from my subconscious though, because it’s perfect for this one. It’s not literal, but it captures the movement of the patterns and the color palette so well. Then I really just wanted to keep the rest of the outfit very classic. Perfect trench, dark wash denim, and a well proportioned flat. Easy, and then it was time for the more creative part. The vase next to the sofa made for the perfect color reference for sourcing a sculptural pair of earrings, and because I didn’t want to add any additional jewelry but still wanted to bring in some more color, these Celine acetate sunglasses did the trick. And last, but not least, this clutch that is so spot on it’s sort of amazing. Just like the sconce (which is vintage from Obsolete in LA, more details in this AD article), it’s black, brass, then ivory. Voilà!

Although we don’t see much of the rug in these photos, the texture of it jumped out at me and I wondered if I could find a coat that could mimic it. So when I saw this one at Toteme, I gasped - it’s exactly what I wanted. And how amazing is the concept behind it: “Made from warm shearling softly printed with a pattern reminiscent of stracciatella gelato.” Say less! I wanted to then keep the base outfit very neutral, but punctuated with black accessories since I think the black window frames, chairs, and overhead lighting make this space so successful. I actually bought these boots for an upcoming work trip, and they are amazing. This outfit came together the easiest out of all five, and with the belt and statement coat, I limited the jewelry to earrings only (incorporating black and gold as a nod to the light fixtures, naturally). Finally, the brown leather tote rounds it out and I think gives this outfit a bit of depth that wouldn’t have occurred to me if I wasn’t matching back to a room. It’s really fascinating to me how interiors can be such a spot on reference image to build out an entire outfit.
P.S. I saw these lipstick cases in the Dries store a few months ago and I made a mental note they would be a good way to sneak in color to these outfits. Oranges in a bowl = orange + black leather DVN lipstick case!

And one more…. for good measure. The wallpaper! The sink! Ok, bye!
