Loved this Emily! Kids will force you to take a long look and man, that’s a love/hate relationship but so important. You’re spot on with why your readers come here and why we keep coming back.

🤍🤍kids are the most powerful mirror on earth, I’m convinced! Thank you for being here, and for reading. It means the world to me 🤍

One of the best essays I’ve read on Substack. Thank you for sharing this, and a good reminder that things are not just things, they tell the story of our lives and should be treated and collected with care and intention. 💕

Oh my goodness, thank you Emily, for the kindest words 🤍 I’m on mission “no more spring closet clean outs” .. trying at least!

Lovely post Emily and wise words you wrote. We need to take care of our things the one that have a history in our life! Kids are our mirrors for sure! Every little insecurity we haven’t work on they would reflect it until we work on it!

We can’t hide from them! Thank you so much for reading ❤️❤️

Love this, and can SO relate to the Amy Smilovic quote. And also have a kid who will straight up tell me if my outfit is not in alignment with my true style, for better or for worse lol

It’s such a great quote! She put it perfectly. Thank you for reading and saying hi!!!

I love the idea that getting dressed is also a process through which we get to know ourselves, not only the other way around. there’s something so special about looking at each piece and being sure that, somehow, it is a little bit of who we are. loved reading this!

Thank you, Cecilia! Wow, taking a screenshot of this comment. It’s perfectly put ❤️❤️

Thank you for putting into words - and a way of thinking- this feeling that I’ve also been circling the past few months. There’s so much to be said about intentionality and how we approach life through a more considered lens. Bravo friend!

Another excellent read! I think self-discovery through personal style is such a wonderful thing to pass down! It's something I've been thinking about a lot for when I'm a mom!

Ok. Aren’t you the reader of our minds,Emily?!!! Yes, our kids have a good perception of us growing up and I noticed it’s not only related to how we dress but also how we comunicate etc. When I try to say something I think is cool/trendy in English(not the primary language we speak in our family) my kids say: “Mom, It doesn’t suits you! Please do not say that.”😁 Oh, and I’m proud of them every-time they ask for my Margo shoes or my cashmere sweaters(my 2 older girls are 14 and 16). We need to choose carefully so our kids will do the same. Thanks Emily for such a thoughtful post.

“We need to choose carefully so our kids will do the same” I LOVE THIS! Yes!!! You’re so right that it’s about how we communicate, how we treat others, what our values are, etc. In the grand scheme of things, visual communication is actually further down the list of importance, but it also impacts my mood so on a level it really is all connected. Thank you so much for being here, Anastasia 🤍🤍

I love this and I’ll add to it: embodying a strong sense of self the way that you do really helps other people do the same thing. Reading your work here (observing how you construct your own style) has taught me so much about the way that I want to be visible in the world.

I always feel like it’s a little gift when i encounter someone who has put care and attention into what they’re wearing ❤️ I am always learning and noting what moves me when I see it in others. Not to copy them, but just to evolve and try new things! Thank you for being here, Julie 🤍
